Where to find official driving licence quiz questions

The Portale dell’Automobilista publishes ministerial question lists. Here is how to choose the right one and use it to study.

Look for the question lists on the official Portale dell’Automobilista and check that the list and language match your test category.

The Portal as a starting point

The Portale dell’Automobilista publishes quiz question banks for several categories, including AM, B, higher-category licences and CQC, and lists the question sets available in some languages. Start with the dedicated ministerial notice, select the link for your category and check the update date. The official quiz section is more reliable than an anonymous collection uploaded years ago, but you should still check it when the Ministry updates the syllabus or materials.

Distinguish the question list for obtaining a licence from the one for a revision exam: they may have different content and purposes. Language matters too. A French or German PDF may be provided for some categories; the absence of a link should not be taken as permission to sit the test in another language. If the link opens a new page or downloads a file, note its title, category and date. That way you know which material you are using and can update it when the official page changes.

How to turn the question list into a study plan

Downloading every question and reading them in order is a passive approach. Work topic by topic, try to answer before looking at the solution, and note the rules behind the harder statements. When you get one wrong, do not memorise only the sentence: write down which concept made it true or false, then look for other questions on the same topic. If you are preparing for the standard category B theory test, alternate this review with full practice tests of 30 questions in 20 minutes.

Third-party apps can make studying more convenient, but check where the content comes from and compare any uncertainties with the ministerial question list or an up-to-date handbook. An app can help with chapters, exercises and a mistake history, but it is not the body that publishes the question bank and does not replace an instructor’s explanations. If you find a question ambiguous, note it and ask your driving school or instructor; do not build a general rule from a single screenshot shared online.

Material checklist

  • Open the Portal’s official page and select the category and purpose.
  • Check the date, language and version of the downloaded question list.
  • Review incorrect answers and study the underlying concept.

Frequently asked questions

Will every question in the list appear in the exam?

The exam generates a test sheet by selecting questions according to the applicable procedure; there is no promise that every question in the file will appear in your test.

Can a quiz app replace the official question list?

It can make practice convenient, but check the category and update date, and compare any uncertainties with ministerial material and your driving school.
