Licence photo: how recent must it be for the medical visit?

The licence medical certificate requires a recent passport-style photo; confirm the format and submission method with the certifying doctor.

For a dematerialised medical certificate, MIT requires a recent passport-style photo that the doctor sends with the other data. This does not mean you can provide any picture from your phone: ask the certifying doctor which format and delivery method to use before the appointment.

Photo in the electronic certificate

During a licence medical visit, an authorised certifying doctor sends the electronic certificate, photo and applicant’s signature to the Ministry, then gives the applicant a receipt. MIT’s guidance lists a recent passport-style photo among the documents for the dematerialised process. “Recent” means that the image must show your current appearance and meet the identification requirements; do not rely on an old photo just because it still resembles you technically.

Before the appointment, ask whether the doctor wants a printed photo, a digital file or both, and which dimensions, background and quality are accepted. The certificate process may depend on the professional’s system; there is no universal step in which applicants upload an image from their phone themselves. If you bring a file, you may also keep a recent print as a backup, but follow the doctor’s instructions and do not send personal data through an unrequested channel.

Avoid delays in the application

Bring the photo in the agreed format and check that your face is clearly identifiable and not obscured. For religious dress or other special circumstances, ask the doctor which rules apply. If the image does not meet the format, the certificate may not transmit correctly or the office may request a replacement. A B licence application also requires identification, tax-code details, medical documentation and the applicable fees; the photo does not replace those items.

Keep the medical receipt and check that the details are correct before leaving the clinic. Ask whether the photo was captured and included in the electronic certificate. An app can help you study for theory, but it does not create the official photo or transmit a medical certificate. If you need another photo, follow the professional’s directions and do not alter it in a way that misrepresents your appearance.

Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you prepare for B theory through chapters, quizzes, explanations, mistake review and study statistics.
