Licence application for a minor: parent or guardian documents

For an AM application by a minor, the legal parent or guardian must sign and provide valid identity documents.

For a minor’s AM application, the MIT requires signatures from the candidate and their legal parent or guardian, plus the representative’s valid identity document and a copy.

The representative’s signature and identity

A minor applying for an AM licence must submit the required application form signed by the candidate and by a parent or legal guardian. The MIT also requires the guardian’s valid identity document to be shown, with a full copy provided. The representative’s signature does not replace the minor’s: both must sign where required. If the minor has a court-appointed guardian, bring the document proving legal authority if the office requests it.

Prepare the candidate’s identity document, tax code or health card, medical-fitness receipt and payments required for the relevant application stage. The MIT AM page lists the documents and separates payments for theory and practical tests. Fees, methods and attachments can change, so check the official page before attending. A driving school can help complete the form, but it cannot sign in place of the legal representative.

Organise the file before the appointment

Have the form signed in the correct places and compare the names on the application with those on the identity documents. Bring valid originals for inspection and prepare complete, legible copies. If a guardian signs, ask the UMC in advance whether it needs to see the appointment order. If a parent cannot attend, check which signing and identification method is accepted; do not assume a message or an unauthenticated photocopy is enough.

For example, a 14-year-old applying for AM with a parent should bring the candidate’s ID, the parent’s ID, the required copies and the form signed by both. Keep receipts and copies in case the office asks for a supplement. Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps the candidate revise AM theory with quizzes and explanations; it does not manage signatures or submit applications.

Frequently asked questions

Does the parent sign instead of the minor?

No. The MIT requires the candidate’s signature and, for a minor, the legal parent or guardian’s signature as well.

Do I need the parent’s ID if a driving school handles the application?

The school does not replace the legal representative’s signature. The MIT requires the parent’s or guardian’s valid ID and a copy.
