Requirements
Medical examination for a category C licence: how it differs from B
For category C, check the medical requirements for that category and any CML rules with an authorised doctor.
A category C medical should not automatically be treated as identical to a B medical. The MIT assesses fitness for the requested category and identifies specific cases requiring a Local Medical Commission.
The requested category affects assessment
Fitness to drive is assessed in relation to the licence category being requested. If you already hold B and apply for C, you still need the medical documentation required for the extension; an earlier certificate does not automatically carry over. The MIT C1-C page requires proof of a medical-fitness assessment and refers applicants to authorised doctors. Age, clinical circumstances and category can affect who carries out the assessment and which documents are needed.
The MIT says that some C and D licences above certain age limits require assessment by a Local Medical Commission. Official pages should not be read as a diagnosis: the certifying doctor or CML evaluates the individual and the category. For professional C driving, also remember that CQC is a separate qualification; any CQC course does not replace the licence medical.
Arrange the medical and application
Before booking, confirm the doctor is authorised and ask which documents to bring. If the doctor says a CML assessment is needed, follow the Commission’s procedure and keep its receipt for your application. The MIT sets different validity periods for single-doctor and CML receipts. Check the validity period against the date you plan to file, rather than leaving the medical until the last moment.
For example, an existing B holder applying for C needs a new assessment suited to the requested category, not merely the old B certificate. Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you revise category C theory with quizzes, explanations and error review; it does not perform medical assessments.
