Driving licence PagoPA: why theory and practical tests have separate payments
Payments for different driving-test stages use specific tariff codes; choose the one required for the operation you are completing.
MIT lists separate payments for the theory and practical stages of a B licence. Choose the tariff for the relevant stage and pay according to current instructions instead of reusing another code for convenience.
Each payment is linked to an operation
Motor vehicle office payments go through the Portale dell’automobilista and PagoPA. The tariff list treats the theory and practical tests as separate operations, which can have different payment codes. MIT's B-licence page lists a theory-test payment with the application and a practical-test payment when booking that test. This does not mean paying the same charge twice: each amount must be linked to the operation it covers.
The portal offers a national tariff and, for some regions or autonomous provinces, a specific tariff list. Select the correct area, find the entry for the procedure and confirm the candidate's personal details and tax code. Tariffs are identified by code: do not choose by amount alone or because a description sounds similar. MIT and the local motor vehicle office provide the current steps and receipts required.
Check when to pay and which receipt to submit
Before paying, check which test you are booking and whether its tariff is due with the application or at the booking stage. Keep the payment notice and outcome, then use the portal to print the receipt required for the application. MIT specifies that the receipt to present is the one issued by the portal, not the confirmation generated by a bank or payment app.
If you have already paid the wrong item, do not automatically make a duplicate payment to try to correct it. Check the status under “My payments” and consult MIT's procedure for incorrect or undue payments; an unused PagoPA payment may have defined recovery or reuse options.
