PagoPA for a driving licence: what to do if you lost the receipt
For a licence application, retrieve and print the receipt from Portale dell’Automobilista; the payment provider’s receipt is different.
If you lose a PagoPA receipt for a licence application, sign in to Portale dell’Automobilista and print it again from “My payments”. MIT treats the receipt generated by the portal as the document for the application, not the confirmation from the bank or app used to pay.
Retrieve the required receipt
The receipt for a payment and the receipt to submit to the motorisation office are not necessarily the same document. MIT says the application requires the receipt printed from Portale dell’Automobilista. Sign in to the reserved area with SPID or CIE, open “Access to services”, then “Online PagoPA payments” and “My payments”. Select the paid item, open its plus menu and choose “Print payment receipt”. This option appears once the payment is recorded as paid.
If you lost the downloaded file or paper copy, first try downloading it again from your account. Losing the copy alone does not mean you must pay again. A bank, home-banking or payment-app confirmation may show that money moved, but MIT identifies the portal receipt as the valid document for the application. Check that the selected fee matches your procedure and that the tax code belongs to the applicant. The portal may prefill the SPID or CIE holder’s details; MIT allows you to correct these before confirming if the application is for someone else.
If the payment is missing
Check that you signed in with the account linked to the application and that the transaction completed. If the portal shows a pending, duplicate or incorrect payment, do not pay again without checking: note the IUV, fee and date, then contact the PagoPA assistance channel listed by MIT. Paid IUVs that have not been used for an application do not expire, according to the Ministry guide, but the fee must match the procedure you intend to complete.
Before your appointment, confirm that the receipt shows the correct holder, fee and status, and bring it with the other required documents. If the payment was wrong or not due, refund handling is separate from retrieving a receipt: consult MIT’s page on incorrect payments. Do not assume a banking screenshot will automatically replace the official receipt. You can continue studying theory separately while the administrative issue is being resolved.

Frequently asked questions
Is a receipt from my banking app enough?
No. MIT requires the receipt printed from Portale dell’Automobilista, even if the bank confirmation proves payment.
Must I pay again if I lose the receipt?
Not necessarily. Find the payment under “My payments” and print the official receipt again; check its status first.
