Category B application: which documents must be original or copied?

Follow the MIT list: show the valid identity document in person and provide copies of the required attachments.

For a category B application, bring the valid identity document in original form for inspection and provide a copy. Prepare copies of the other documents listed by the MIT according to your circumstances.

Originals to show and copies to submit

The MIT category B page distinguishes documents to show in original from those to attach as copies. For example, it asks for a valid identity document to be shown and a complete photocopy. The medical receipt and the tax code or health card are listed as copies. Payments have their own receipts, and for the application the valid receipt is the one printed from the Portale dell’Automobilista. Do not turn this into one rule for every applicant: additional documents may apply depending on citizenship, delegation or other circumstances.

“For inspection” means the office must be able to check the original; a printed scan may not be enough. Bring the valid original with a complete, readable copy. For other attachments, check the current list to see whether it calls for an ordinary copy, certified copy or portal receipt. If you are unsure about an original, ask the UMC before your appointment rather than handing over your only copy.

Organise a clear application file

Sort the papers into groups: originals to show, copies to hand over, medical records and PagoPA receipts. Check that your name, date of birth and tax code match across the form and attachments. If someone else submits the file, delegation and the representative’s and applicant’s IDs have their own requirements; do not treat them as ordinary photocopies without checking the MIT page. Non-EU applicants may need additional residence documents.

After filing, keep a copy of the full application and the protocol number in case the office requests more documents. Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you revise category B theory with quizzes, explanations and error review; it does not store or submit application documents.
