Can a family member submit your licence application for you?

A delegate may file an application at the counter with a signed authorisation and the identity documents listed by the MIT.

Yes. A delegated person may submit a motorisation application at the UMC counter. They must bring a simple signed authorisation, their original identity document and a copy of the applicant’s identity document.

What the delegate must bring

The MIT allows a motorisation application at the counter to be submitted by a delegate instead of the person concerned. The authorisation must be a simple written document signed by the application holder. The delegate brings their own original identity document and a copy of the delegating person’s identity document. These requirements concern the person physically attending the counter; they do not replace the application, the candidate’s signatures or other licence documents.

Prepare the licence application form and every attachment required for the category and applicant. The authorisation should clearly identify the applicant, the delegate and the procedure to be submitted. Ask the UMC whether the delegate needs any additional papers or an appointment. The MIT page describes delegation at the counter; online submissions follow platform credentials and rules, not the same paper process.

Minors and specific cases

If the application is for a minor, a parent or guardian has a legal representative role and may face different requirements from an ordinary delegate. Do not assume that a minor’s own authorisation or a family member’s presence is enough: ask the UMC who must sign and what representative documents are needed. If the delegate and applicant are different people, bring readable copies of both identity documents.

For example, an adult relative submitting a category B application for someone else brings the signed authorisation, their original ID and a copy of the applicant’s ID, as well as the complete category B file. Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps the applicant study theory with quizzes and explanations; it does not create authorisations or file applications.

Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps the applicant revise theory quizzes and explanations; delegation and document submission follow MIT procedures.

Frequently asked questions

Does the authorisation need to be notarised?

The MIT describes a simple written authorisation signed by the application holder, plus the delegate’s original ID and a copy of the applicant’s ID.

Can a family member sign the application instead of the candidate?

Delegation authorises counter submission; it does not replace signatures required from the candidate or legal representative.
