How to pay driving-licence fees through PagoPA

Choose the correct Motorisation Office fee and reason for payment, then keep the receipt with the application.

For a category B licence, MIT lists €42.40 under fee code N067 for the application and theory test, and €16 under N019 for the practical test: €58.40 in public fees. PagoPA lets you pay online or through an authorised payment provider.

Find the fee for your stage

Standard public fees for category B are: N067, €26.40 in administrative fees plus €16 stamp duty (€42.40) for the application and theory test; N019, €16 stamp duty for the practical test. The administrative total is €58.40. The medical, driving school, lessons, practice and use of an exam vehicle are charged separately. Other categories may have different fees; MIT publishes the current codes and amounts.

Sign in to PagoPA from the Motorist Portal with SPID or CIE, choose “Online procedure payments” and create a new payment notice by selecting the fee for your service. You can pay online or through an authorised payment service provider, such as a bank, post office or participating tobacconist. Download the complete receipt: you will need it to match the payment to your application.

When to pay

Not every amount is paid at the same time. For example, the MIT category B guidance lists payments connected with the application or booking each test; read the section for the stage you are about to complete. Paying a fee too early may make it harder to match the payment or require a refund request. If a driving school submits your application, ask which payments it handles and which receipts you must provide yourself to avoid paying twice.

If the system shows an error, do not immediately repeat the payment: check your PagoPA summary and whether the payment has already gone through. If a receipt has the wrong fee code, contact the Portal's support channel or your UMC before creating another one. Cancellation and refund procedures depend on the payment and are not automatic. When saving the documents, note the date, payment reference, fee code and application number.

Check before paying

  • Use the official PagoPA page and the fee code for your current stage.
  • Check the payee, amount and tax code in the summary.
  • Download the payment receipt and keep it with the application it relates to.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay driving-licence fees at a tobacconist or bank?

Yes. You can pay a PagoPA notice through any authorised payment provider, including a bank, post office or participating tobacconist. First generate the notice with the correct fee code on the Motorist Portal.

If I choose the wrong payment reason, do I have to pay again?

Do not make a second payment straight away. Ask the Portal or UMC whether the payment can be matched or refunded; the outcome depends on the type of error.
