Driving test
If you fail the practical driving test, when can you take it again?
After an unsuccessful result, check your remaining attempts and the validity of your learner's permit, then ask the UMC for the earliest available session.
The next attempt depends on how many tests you have left and when your learner's permit expires. The MIT page lists three practical tests for category B within the specified period.
Check your own case, not a generic timetable
After an unsuccessful practical test, first check your learner's permit: look at its issue date, expiry date and how many attempts you have already used. For category B, the MIT page lists three practical tests over eleven months, starting from the month after you pass the theory test and are issued the authorisation. The number of attempts does not tell you the earliest available date at your local office. Ask the UMC or your driving school when you can book again and whether your application is still valid.
Do not confuse an unsuccessful result with failing to attend: the administrative consequences may differ, and the office records the result according to the applicable procedure. If you received a report or notice, keep it and ask whether you need to submit a new payment receipt or booking. If the office cancelled the session, ask how the attempt will be treated and when it will be rescheduled. Do not rely on waiting periods reported by candidates in other provinces.
Work on your weak points before trying again
Before asking for a new date, go over the test with your instructor: in which situation did you lose control, which sign did you miss, or which manoeuvre needs to be made safer? Practise that point in different situations, then ask for a mock test without prompts. If the examiner stopped the test because of a risk, spend time on observation, right of way and decision-making; repeating the same route is not enough. The goal is to improve your skills, not memorise a script for a particular road.
Also check the required practice lessons and certificates. MIT currently lists at least six certified hours for a non-special category B licence; Ministerial Decree 294/2025 provides for a new eight-hour programme that will take effect when the platform is activated, and includes a rule on certificates in the event of a second application. Ask the UMC which rules apply to your authorisation and whether your previous certificate is still valid. If your learner's permit expires before the new test, ask what procedure to follow before it expires: do not assume an extension or automatic recognition.
After the result
- Write down the attempt, date and authorisation expiry date.
- Ask the relevant office for the next date and the required documents.
- Agree with your instructor on targeted exercises for the areas you need to improve.

Frequently asked questions
How many times can I retake the practical test?
MIT lists three practical tests within the category B period. Check your learner's permit to see how many attempts you have already used and which time limits apply to your application.
Do I have to wait one month before trying again?
Do not automatically apply time limits from another category or an old procedure. Ask the UMC which date is allowed for your application.
