How to check the points balance on your driving licence

You can check your current licence points in the Portale dell’Automobilista reserved area with SPID or CIE, or through the telephone service listed by MIT. The balance reflects deductions entered in Ministry systems by the authorities that recorded them.

Use official channels

The Ministry lists three ways to check your points: sign in to the Portale dell’Automobilista with SPID or CIE, call the dedicated landline number shown on the MIT page, or request the balance from a Motorizzazione civil office. The Portal displays the balance in its reserved area; MIT provides separate access credentials for minors under the service’s instructions.

Avoid websites or messages asking you to enter credentials outside the official domain. Licence points are personal data: go directly to the Portal instead of following a link in an unexpected message. If using the telephone service, check the current number and conditions on the MIT page before calling.

Understand when the balance changes

Points are deducted from the licence of the driver identified at the time of the offence, not automatically from the vehicle owner’s licence. If the driver could not be stopped, the owner must identify them through the required process. The deduction is entered in Ministry records by the police authority after the notice becomes final, for example after payment or completion of appeals.

A recently issued notice may therefore not appear in the balance immediately. The Portal shows data entered by the authorities; if you find an error, duplicate deduction or missing update after a successful appeal, MIT says to contact the authority that recorded the offence, because it can correct the entry. Keep the notice, communication receipts and any appeal decision to support the check.
