How to study
The most common mistakes in driving licence quizzes and how to correct them
Spot rushing, misread words and confused concepts, then turn each mistake into a focused review.
Mistakes have more than one cause. Classify them, revisit the rule and check the concept with different questions.
Understand why the answer is wrong
A quiz mistake may stem from not knowing a rule, reading incompletely or confusing two similar situations. After the practice test, note the topic and likely cause for each mistake. If you confused signs, study their shape and purpose; if you misread a negative, practise slowing down before choosing; if you applied the right rule in the wrong context, identify the condition that changes the answer. The score alone does not show which part of your reasoning needs correcting.
Do not treat the adverbs “always”, “never” and “only” as automatic tricks. Sometimes they signal a statement that is too absolute, but sometimes the rule really is categorical. Read the whole statement and check the legal exception. For example, do not answer a priority question by counting vehicles alone: consider the signs, type of junction and directions of travel. Examples should be understood as specific cases, not memorised as shortcuts that apply in every context.
Use a three-step correction
First, try to explain the rule without looking at the solution. Second, consult the chapter or an up-to-date learning source and identify the difference between your answer and the correct one. Third, answer new questions on the same topic a few hours later or the following day. If you repeat the same question straight away, you may remember its answer without understanding the concept. A short record of recurring mistakes is more useful than an endless list of copied statements.
Each week, check whether a mistake has come up again. If it has, rewrite the rule in simple terms and find a real situation where it applies. If the problem is rushing, make yourself reread the question before confirming an answer. If it is memory, spread your review over several days. There is no national data that would support saying which mistakes are most common among all candidates; this analysis is about your own results and helps you decide what to review. The Portal’s question bank provides official practice questions, but a study method does not replace your driving school’s explanations.

Frequently asked questions
If I keep getting a statement wrong, should I repeat it until I memorise it?
Review the concept using different questions. Learning only the statement may not be enough when the quiz presents the same principle in another form.
Are there official statistics on the most common mistakes?
The cited sources publish question lists and procedures, not a reliable national ranking of individual candidates’ mistakes. Use your own study data.
