Driving licence at zero points: what does a review involve?
A zero balance triggers an invitation to retake the required tests within the stated deadline; failure results in indefinite suspension.
When the points balance reaches zero, MIT requires a licence review: the driver is invited to retake the required tests within 30 days. MIT says the driver may still circulate during that period; if the tests are not taken or passed, the licence is suspended indefinitely.
Read the notice and deadline
Reaching zero is not resolved by attending a points-recovery course. MIT describes a review requiring the tests used to obtain the licence. The Ministry’s communication invites the driver to take them within 30 days; check the notification date and deadline stated in your letter, and contact the UMC if you have not received it or the details are inconsistent.
MIT’s page says driving is still permitted during the stated period. Follow the conditions and deadline in the notice, and ask the office before driving if you are unsure of your licence status. Do not assume that an appeal against a fine, a course or a request to check the balance automatically pauses the review.
Prepare for the required tests
The review requires the fitness tests specified for your licence; the UMC notice states which test and steps apply. MIT says the licence is suspended indefinitely if the tests are not taken or are not passed. After a successful exam, the initial 20 points are restored.
Check promptly where to book, which documents and fees are required and which categories are affected. If you hold several categories, ask the office which tests apply to each relevant title. Keep the notice, payment receipts and booking confirmations. For errors in deductions, MIT says to contact the police authority that recorded the offence, which can correct the record; the UMC handles the review procedure. These are separate steps, and one does not automatically cancel the other.
To prepare theory, Quiz Patente Ufficiale offers chapter study, exam quizzes, mistake review and statistics. The UMC manages bookings and the licence review.
