Licence medical: can you bring a digital photo on your phone?

The doctor submits the photo for a dematerialised certificate; ask in advance whether a file is accepted and what specifications apply.

A dematerialised medical certificate includes a photo that the doctor sends to the Ministry. Not every clinic is guaranteed to accept an image displayed on a phone: contact the certifying doctor before the visit and follow its instructions on format and delivery.

Who submits the photo

In the dematerialised process, an authorised doctor sends the certificate, photo and applicant’s signature to the Ministry, then provides a receipt. MIT says to bring a recent passport-style photo. This does not mean that applicants must upload it to the Portal themselves or that a phone screen is always sufficient: the doctor must capture a suitable image through the process used by the clinic.

Call the clinic before your appointment and ask whether it prefers a print, a digital file or both. If it accepts a file, ask about format, resolution, background and a secure method of delivery; do not send an image through messaging unless the clinic requests it. If you receive no instructions, bring a recent passport-style print to avoid delaying the visit. For clothing or identification concerns, ask the doctor which rules apply.

Check before leaving the clinic

After the visit, confirm that the doctor captured the right photo and that the receipt contains your details. The certificate has a limited period for filing the application: MIT lists three months for a single-doctor visit and six months for a CML visit. If the file is unreadable or the image is rejected, ask the clinic how to correct it and whether the certificate must be resubmitted.

A photo is part of administrative identification; it is not an image to edit to change facial features or age. Use a recent portrait that represents you and follows instructions. The app can help with theory study, but it does not collect medical photos or send them to the Ministry. The application also requires other documents, so keep the medical receipt and the doctor’s instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Is showing the photo on my phone enough?

It depends on the certifying doctor’s system. Ask first; if digital files are not accepted, bring the requested print.

Is a recent photo still required for an electronic certificate?

Yes. MIT includes a recent passport-style photo in the dematerialised process, submitted by the doctor with the certificate.
