Applying for two licence categories together: what to ask the UMC

Tests and fees depend on the categories combined and licences already held; ask the UMC which forms and tariffs apply.

If you want to obtain or extend two categories in one process, do not assume one form or payment covers both. Requirements, tests and possible exemptions depend on the requested categories and licences already held: ask the UMC how to submit a combined application and which fees to pay.

Define the categories requested

Before filing, write down exactly which categories you want to obtain, such as B together with an extension or two categories from different groups. MIT pages describe age, documents and tests for each entitlement, but the effect of combining them may depend on what you already hold and which route you choose. Some existing licences may exempt you from repeating theory for a particular category; do not extend that exemption to another category without confirmation.

Tell the UMC which licences you hold, whether they are valid and which codes appear on them. Ask whether you need linked applications, one medical assessment covering both categories or separate certificates for different medical groups. Also check which vehicle is required for each practical test and whether the tests can be booked together. Keep a written answer or reference to the procedure explained.

Forms, fees and bookings

PagoPA payments are tied to specific fee codes and stages. Ask which payments apply to theory, practical tests, issuance or extension before paying; a fee for one category does not automatically cover the other. If the UMC requires separate files, follow the separate references and do not create duplicates yourself. Keep the official receipts printed from the Portal and verify that the tax code belongs to the actual applicant.

After filing, check that both categories appear in the record and that deadlines or attempts are recorded correctly. If an existing licence exempts you from theory for one category, ask how this is recorded before booking. You can organise study by chapter and category: Quiz Patente Ufficiale provides quizzes and explanations for supported categories, but it does not replace official instructions about fees, tests and documents.

Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps review supported categories through chapters, quizzes, explanations, mistake review and statistics.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay one fee for two categories?

Do not assume one payment covers both. Ask the UMC which codes and amounts apply to each stage.

Does already holding a licence always remove theory for a second category?

No. Exemptions depend on the categories held and the combination requested; confirm the MIT rule with the UMC.
