Driving licence: coordinate the photo, medical visit and application

The medical receipt is valid for three or six months depending on the doctor; plan the application within that window.

For a category B application, the medical-visit receipt is valid for three months after a visit with a single physician and six months after a local medical commission visit. Bring a recent photo to the appointment and file the application before that period ends.

Prepare the photo before the appointment

The medical certificate for a licence is sent to the Ministry electronically together with the photo and signature; the doctor gives you a receipt to submit to the Motorizzazione. MIT requires a recent passport-size photo at the medical appointment. Bring it in the required format and check with the medical office about image quality or appearance requirements so it can be captured without having to book another appointment.

After the visit, note its date and who performed it. The receipt can be used for three months after an examination by a single physician, or six months if it was performed by a local medical commission. The period depends on the type of examination, not on how long you would prefer to have. If you need further checks or a commission appointment takes time, count the validity from the date the visit is completed and the receipt is issued.

Book the application with some time to spare

Before paying or arranging the visit, check which documents and fees the relevant UMC requires and how the application must be filed: in person, through the Portal or under a local procedure. If possible, identify an actual date or method for submitting your documents first. Do not leave it until the last day of validity: a missing item, photo correction or postponed appointment can take time to resolve.

For example, after a single-physician visit on 10 April, plan to file within the three-month window stated on the receipt and check how the office calculates the deadline. If the window has passed, do not assume the Motorizzazione will accept the certificate: ask the UMC or doctor whether another visit or document is needed. Keep the receipt, photo, application, identity document and correct payment together. A reminder of the dates helps preserve the work you have already done.

While arranging your application, Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you study category B theory by chapter, take exam quizzes, review wrong answers and follow progress statistics. The app supports revision; it does not handle medical visits, photos or administrative bookings.
