Driving-licence payment: what if the PagoPA amount is wrong?
Keep the notice and receipt and check with the Portal or UMC how to correct the payment before paying again.
If a PagoPA payment for your licence appears incorrect, keep the notice and receipt and do not immediately pay a second time. Check the fee code, amount, applicant and status in the Portal, then ask MIT or the UMC which correction or refund procedure applies.
Check what was actually paid
Sign in to “I miei pagamenti” in the Portale dell’Automobilista and check the procedure, IUV, fee code, amount and applicant’s tax code. MIT identifies the receipt printed from the Portal as the document to submit to the office; a confirmation from a bank or payment app alone does not replace it. If the transaction is still processing, wait for its status to update or contact support before paying again.
An unexpected amount may result from the selected fee, the stage of the procedure, a regional fee schedule or the applicant details. Compare the notice with the MIT schedule and the UMC instructions for your specific application. Do not use the total another person remembers: procedures and amounts can differ. Save a copy of the notice, payment details and receipt, noting the date and code.
Correct the issue without creating a duplicate payment
MIT distinguishes erroneous or undue payments that have not been used. For a valid unused payment, its guide says the IUV does not expire and can be reused for a procedure requiring the same fee code; it also describes ways to convert erroneous or undue payments into a voucher or seek a refund under the stated process. This does not allow a fee code to be moved to a different tariff.
If the amount was charged but the receipt is wrong, contact the PagoPA support service for Motorizzazione procedures or the UMC and provide the IUV, fee code, expected amount and applicant details. Ask whether the payment should be reused, converted, refunded or supplemented through a new notice. Wait for instructions before paying again: a second payment may leave two transactions to reconcile. Keep the office’s response with your application documents.

Frequently asked questions
Should I immediately pay again if the amount was wrong?
No. Check status, fee and applicant details, then ask support or the UMC what correction is needed before making another payment.
Can I reuse a payment for a different fee code?
MIT’s guide says a payment may be reused for a procedure requiring the same code; otherwise follow the erroneous-payment process.
