Licence photo: how recent must it be for the medical visit?
A recent photo is required for the dematerialised medical certificate; confirm accepted date and format with the doctor.
The dematerialised medical-certificate procedure requires a recent photograph of the applicant. Before your visit, ask the certifying doctor which date, format and submission method are accepted.
Prepare a photo for the medical certificate
The photograph used in the medical procedure must clearly identify the applicant and link the certificate to the licence file. The MIT category B page requires applicants to attend with the listed documentation; for the dematerialised process, the certifying doctor provides the photo specifications and submission method used by that practice. Do not assume that a photo is acceptable just because it is recent or meets passport-photo dimensions: ask whether the doctor needs a printed copy, a digital file or both.
Also check that the image reflects your current appearance and is not damaged, blurry or cropped in a way that makes identification difficult. The public MIT page does not state one universal number of days for every practice; confirm the acceptable date and capture method with the doctor. If you already sent a photo to a driving school, ask whether it reached the certifying doctor and whether you must bring it again.
Avoid delays on the day
When booking, ask three questions together: how recent must the photo be, what dimensions or file format are needed, and should it be printed or uploaded? If the doctor captures it at the appointment, check whether you still need to bring a copy. Keep the original file and do not send it through an unapproved channel. If the medical appointment is postponed for a long time, confirm that the photo remains acceptable rather than assuming the earlier booking is enough.
The medical-certificate photo is an administrative requirement, separate from theory study and examination tests. Quiz Patente Ufficiale offers category B quizzes, explanations and error review; it does not capture photos or verify an applicant’s identity.
Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you revise category B theory with quizzes and explanations; follow the doctor’s instructions for the certificate photo.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a fixed number of days within which the photo must have been taken?
Confirm the limit with the certifying doctor; acceptance depends on the dematerialised certificate procedure being used.
Can I just show a digital photo on my phone?
Ask the doctor whether a digital file is accepted and in which format; a phone screen may not replace a requested print or upload.
