Applying for a category B licence independently: prepare for the office

You can apply for category B directly through the Motorisation Office as an independent candidate, preparing the form, valid ID, medical certificate, tax code and required receipts. Follow the current MIT list and check local UMC procedures.

Gather the application and attachments

The category B application uses form TT2112, available at the office or through the Portale dell’Automobilista under MIT procedures. The file includes a valid identity document to show and copy, proof of a medical-fitness examination by an authorised doctor, payment receipts and a copy of the tax code or health card that shows it. The MIT also sets a validity period for the medical receipt; the period differs for a single doctor and a Local Medical Commission. Check the current official page before booking your appointment.

Some applicants need additional documents because of their circumstances, including non-EU citizens or people submitting an application through a delegate. Do not apply another person’s checklist to your case. If you already hold another licence, have special circumstances or hold a foreign licence, check whether extra attachments or a theory exemption apply. Applying independently does not remove the tests or create a separate fast track: it means you manage the file and appointments directly with the office.

Check the appointment and payment receipts

Before going to the counter, confirm whether your UMC requires an appointment, online submission or a specific opening time. Make sure each payment matches the correct tariff and stage. The MIT publishes a PagoPA guide and explains how to print the valid receipt from the Portale dell’Automobilista. Do not reuse a receipt issued for a different procedure. Bring the required originals and copies, organised with the form, and keep a copy of the submitted file.
