B licence as a private candidate: prepare the motorisation file
Use the current MIT checklist for the application, ID, medical visit and fees; check local appointments and instructions with your UMC.
As a private candidate, you can apply for a B licence through the motorisation office by preparing the file listed by MIT: form, valid identification, medical certificate, tax code and the fees for your route. Check current Ministry guidance and your UMC’s submission process before filing.
Document checklist
MIT’s B licence page lists the TT2112 application, a valid identity document shown with a full copy, the medical-fitness receipt and evidence of your tax code. Add the PagoPA receipts required for the tests in your route; different fee codes apply, so do not copy amounts or codes from an old application. MIT also sets different validity windows for the medical receipt depending on whether a single doctor or the Local Medical Commission conducted the visit.
Before going to the counter, check whether the UMC requires an appointment, whether copies must include both sides and when to submit the practical-test fee. If you already hold a category that allows a practical-only route, documents and payments may differ from the theory route. Do not pay a fee based on outdated advice: compare its code with the current MIT tariff and the exact category you are applying for. Keep a copy of the complete file and receipts.
Filing and next steps
Submit the documents through the required channel and check that the application is recorded under the correct category. Ask how notices will be sent and when to book the exam. In the ordinary route, the learner authorisation is issued after passing theory. As a private candidate, you must still arrange the practical test and use a vehicle meeting test requirements, including required dual controls. Confirm that a suitable vehicle is available and ask about booking before choosing a date.
If a document is missing, ask whether the office can accept it later or whether the application must be complete before it is registered. Filing the application is not permission to drive. Administrative steps and studying are separate: quizzes and explanations help prepare for theory, while driving requires permitted practice and a suitable vehicle. A dated checklist helps you avoid mixing up forms and payments for theory, practical tests and later stages.
Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you study B theory with chapters, quizzes, explanations, mistake review and personal statistics.
Frequently asked questions
Does the medical receipt always have the same validity?
No. MIT gives different windows for a single doctor and the Local Medical Commission. Check the receipt date and current instructions.
As a private candidate, do I need a car with dual controls for the test?
The B test vehicle must meet Ministry requirements, including dual controls. Confirm the vehicle and booking with your UMC.
