Can you use your health card instead of the tax-code card?

For a category B application, the MIT accepts a copy of your tax code or the health card that shows it.

Yes. For a category B application, the MIT accepts either a copy of the tax code or a health card showing it. Check that the details match the application.

Which document to include

For a category B licence, the MIT list asks for a photocopy of the tax code or health card that certifies it. You can therefore use a copy of the health card if the tax code is clearly readable and the personal details match. The health card does not replace a valid identity document, which is a separate application requirement; prepare both items.

Before submitting the copy, compare the code on the card with the code on your application, medical receipt and other documents. If your name has changed, the code is unreadable or details do not match, do not write corrections on the card. Ask the UMC or Revenue Agency which updated certificate is needed. Applicants from outside Italy or people in special circumstances may need additional documents, so follow the list that applies to your case.

Check consistency across the file

A mistyped tax code can delay matching the application with the applicant’s details. Check every character before sending your documents and keep a copy of what you submitted. If the office requests a supplement, cite the application reference and send the requested item through the stated channel. Do not attach unnecessary personal data when the health card clearly provides the required tax code.

If a driving school submits the file, give it a clear copy and ask whether it also needs to see the original. An independent applicant should follow the competent office’s instructions.
