Driving-licence medical certificate: how long do you have to apply?
MIT gives a three- or six-month filing window for the medical receipt, depending on whether a single doctor or CML performed the assessment.
MIT says a B licence medical-fitness receipt must be no more than three months old if issued by a single doctor, or six months old if issued by the Local Medical Commission. Plan your application filing within the window that applies to your certificate.
Which date to check
The medical receipt used in a B application has a document-validity window, separate from the length of any learner authorisation or licence. MIT’s B licence page says a receipt from a single doctor must be dated within the preceding three months; for a Local Medical Commission assessment, the listed window is six months. The relevant date is the assessment recorded on the certificate. Check which kind of provider issued it: do not apply the six-month period to an ordinary single-doctor visit.
For example, if you plan to file on 10 October, check whether the certificate is within the three months before that date for a single doctor; the Ministry’s reference for a CML visit is six months. Count back from the actual filing date, not from when you started preparing the file. If the UMC gave a specific deadline or the certificate includes a further review condition, ask how that applies to your case.
Coordinate the appointment and application
Before booking the medical visit, check which documents are required and when you can submit the application. A CML may have its own appointment process; in that case, the window starts from the actual assessment, not the date you requested an appointment. You can prepare other documents while waiting, but do not rely on a receipt that will be outside its window when you file.
If the receipt is close to expiry or already outside the period, contact the UMC or certifying doctor to ask whether the assessment must be repeated. Do not arrange or pay for a second visit without checking, especially if the certificate was sent electronically. The filing date and validity of other documents are separate issues. Submit identification, tax code, photo and required payments too. You can continue studying theory in parallel, but studying does not extend medical documentation.
