Changing address while your licence application is open

If you change address while a licence application is open, notify the Ufficio Motorizzazione Civile managing your file and ask how to update your address and contact details. Do not transfer the application yourself or cancel a booked test: first confirm which office remains responsible and what administrative steps are needed.

Update the file and contact details

Identify the UMC where you submitted the application and formally report the address change under that office’s instructions. Include your name, tax code, requested category, application number if available, old and new address and the date of the change. Ask whether you need an official residence certificate, a declaration or a copy of an updated identity document. MIT’s general driving-licence page describes the services, but handling an open file may require local instructions: use the official contact for your application.

Update your phone number and email as well if they have changed, so notices about missing documents or appointments reach you. Keep a copy of your message and confirmation of receipt. A change of address does not automatically mean you must submit a new application, but do not assume every open record has updated automatically. If your new address is temporary or does not yet match the registry, explain this to the office before sending any declaration that may be inaccurate.

Tests, payments and office responsibility

If you have already booked a theory or practical test, ask the UMC whether the appointment remains valid, whether you should attend the original location and how future notices will be sent. Do not cancel a booking or pay new fees only because you moved; first obtain instructions from the office. If the file needs to move to another province, coordinate the process with both offices and ask how they will handle test attempts, receipts and deadlines.

Write down whom you contacted and the steps requested, then complete only those steps. You can continue studying for the test while the address is updated; theory preparation does not change the administrative office. If a notice reaches your old address, tell the sender promptly and request a copy or updated contact details. The practical goal is to avoid disrupting an application or missing a date before you understand how the address change affects your file.
