Requirements
How to check whether a motorcycle qualifies for A2 on its registration document
Check power, power-to-weight ratio and the original version together; none of these A2 limits should be considered alone.
An A2 motorcycle must meet the 35 kW ceiling, the 0.2 kW/kg ratio and the limit for its original version. Check approved data, not engine size alone.
Three checks are required
A2 eligibility is not defined by engine size. All three limits apply together: power no higher than 35 kW, a power-to-weight ratio no higher than 0.2 kW/kg, and an original version whose power is not more than twice that of the restricted motorcycle. If even one condition is not met, the model is outside A2.
Look for the power in kW on the registration document and use the relevant approved mass data for the ratio. For example, a 30 kW motorcycle with a ratio of 0.21 kW/kg does not qualify just because it is below 35 kW. The number of cubic centimetres cannot resolve the check: two motorcycles with the same engine size can have different power and mass.
Checking a restricted model
For a restricted motorcycle, also confirm that the conversion is approved and recorded correctly. The original version matters: reducing the current power below 35 kW is not enough if the original model exceeds the permitted limit. Ask the seller or workshop for the technical documents and compare them with the registration record. If anything is unclear, ask a competent office or insurer before riding.
A2 eligibility for everyday riding is separate from the requirements for the motorcycle used in the practical test. Before booking, read the MIT page and the driving school or licensing office instructions. Keep evidence of the model’s technical data and make sure its current configuration matches the registration document. An unrecorded modification can cause problems during the test and with insurance cover.

Frequently asked questions
Is every motorcycle below 35 kW an A2 motorcycle?
No. You must also check the maximum 0.2 kW/kg ratio and the limit for the original version.
Does engine size determine A2 eligibility?
No. Check power, power-to-weight ratio, the original version and the vehicle approval recorded in its documents.
