A1 application: documents and naming your test motorcycle
For an A1 application, prepare form TT2112, personal documents and technical details for the motorcycle chosen for the practical test.
To apply for A1, submit form TT2112 and the documents listed by the MIT. State the test motorcycle’s technical specifications and attach a copy of its registration certificate.
Prepare the A1 application
An A1 application is filed with the civil motorisation office using form TT2112, available at the office or through the Portale dell’Automobilista. The MIT page lists valid identification and a copy, your tax code or health card, proof of the medical fitness visit and the relevant PagoPA payments. The validity period for the medical certificate depends on who carried out the visit, so check the Ministry’s page before making an appointment. If you apply through a driving school, ask which documents to provide and in what format; do not assume the office has already received everything.
For A1, the MIT also asks you to state on the form the technical specifications of the motorcycle you plan to use for the practical test and attach a copy of its registration certificate. This lets the motorisation office check that the test vehicle complies. A generic description such as “125 motorcycle” does not replace official specifications. Before filing, check engine capacity, power, power-to-weight ratio and the separate minimum requirements for the test. If the motorcycle belongs to someone else, obtain a readable copy of its registration certificate in time and confirm that you are authorised to use it.
Tests and checking your paperwork
The standard A1 route includes a theory test and a practical test. The MIT currently allows two theory attempts within six months of the application; after passing, you receive the learner’s permit. Three practical attempts are available within eleven months, counted from the month after the theory pass. These deadlines set the available period, while your preparation and the actual appointment dates depend on you and the office. If you already hold another licence, check whether you qualify for an exemption from theory instead of assuming that the rule applies to every case.
Before submitting the application, compare each motorcycle detail with its registration certificate and make sure copies and receipts are legible. If you change vehicles before booking, contact the person handling the application to learn how the official details should be updated. Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you review common road rules through chapters, quizzes, explanations, mistake review and study statistics.

Frequently asked questions
Must I attach the motorcycle registration certificate to the A1 application?
Yes. The MIT page asks you to state the practical-test motorcycle’s technical specifications on form TT2112 and attach a copy of its registration certificate.
Can I change the motorcycle I selected later?
If you change vehicles, ask the motorisation office or driving school how to update the application and attachments before booking the test. Do not use a different vehicle without checking the official file.
