B1 licence as a minor: who signs the application
At 16 or 17, a B1 candidate is still a minor. Check application signatures and a parent or guardian’s documents with the licensing office.
You may apply for B1 from age 16, but a minor candidate must follow MIT instructions for signatures and a parent or guardian’s documents. An adult’s signature does not replace medical requirements or exams.
Applying as a minor
At 16 or 17 you can begin the B1 process because the minimum age is 16, but you are not yet an adult. Prepare the application under the Ministry’s instructions for minor candidates, involving a parent or legal guardian where required. The candidate remains the person applying for the licence and taking the exams; the representative’s signature completes administrative requirements and does not authorise driving.
Consult MIT guidance and ask the licensing office or driving school which form to use, who must sign and which identity documents to attach. Prepare the candidate’s ID, the representative’s ID, tax code, medical certificate and receipts required by the current process. Payments and certificates each have their own rules and validity; do not reuse old receipts without confirmation. If a guardian signs, check whether the office requires a guardianship order or other evidence. An incomplete copy can delay the application.
After applying
The B1 process includes the required exams unless an existing category allows a practical-only route. A parent’s presence does not replace theory, medical fitness or driving. Before choosing a test vehicle, confirm it is an approved non-light quadricycle and meets the B1 test requirements. The word “microcar” alone does not identify its category.
A minor can study and practise with help from a driving school; the representative can help collect documents and arrange bookings. Keep these roles distinct: quizzes and reading help review theory, while manoeuvres are learned through practical training. After issuance, check the category and any codes on the licence before driving. Until then, follow the conditions of your learner authorisation and do not drive alone or outside the applicable rules.
Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you review theory through chapters, quizzes, explanations, mistake review and study statistics.
Frequently asked questions
Can a 16-year-old submit a B1 application alone?
They must follow the Ministry’s minor application procedure, including the required parent or guardian steps. Confirm signatures and attachments with the office.
Does a parent’s signature replace an exam?
No. The candidate must meet the requirements, be medically fit and pass the exams required for their route.
